How Facial Implants Can Enhance Your Appearance

Toronto Facial Implants
Facial implants are made from a variety of materials, the most common of which is solid silicone. High density porous polyethylene and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene are also frequently used. The procedure for all facial implants is similar. The surgeon begins by making an incision in the part of the face where the implant is to be inserted. This is usually done in a crease of the skin or from inside the mouth. A pocket of the appropriate size is then created under the skin and the implant is placed in it. Once the implant is in place, the incision is closed. The procedure normally takes under two hours and is performed under intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Bandages or tape are used to cover the incision, and any non-dissolving sutures that were used are removed after about ten days.
Recovery Process
The surgery for enhancing your appearance with facial implants is an outpatient procedure, so you can return home soon after the surgery. There is the normal post-surgery bruising and swelling on the part of the face where the surgery was performed, which may take several months to fully fade. There is also some pain and discomfort which is controlled by the prescribed painkillers. Some facial movements may initially be restricted, and these are common conditions. Normal post-surgical precautions to prevent any infections have to be observed. While a return to work and normal activities in Toronto are possible within one week, strenuous activity or anything that will place pressure on the new implant must be avoided for four to six weeks.
